In TCM, abalone shells generally refer to "Shijueming" (the Chinese name for abalone shell as a medicinal herb), which are the shells of abalone species such asHaliotis diversicolor(nine-hole abalone) orHaliotis gigantea(giant abalone) from the Haliotidae family.
Efficacy (TCM Perspective): It has the effects of calming the liver and suppressing yang, clearing liver heat to improve eyesight, astringing to stop bleeding, and neutralizing acid to relieve pain.
Indications: It can be used to treat symptoms like dizziness and headache caused by "liver yang hyperactivity" (a TCM term referring to an imbalance where liver yang rises excessively). It is also effective for eye diseases such as red, swollen, and painful eyes, as well as blurred vision, which are caused by excessive liver fire or deficiency of liver and kidney yin (another TCM concept related to bodily fluids and essence). Additionally, it can be used to treat conditions like excessive stomach acid.
